Psoriasis diagnosis

Most often psoriasis can be diagnosed by your doctor simply looking at your skin. However, if necessary, your doctor may take a small sample of your skin11 to test for psoriasis and rule out other diseases, such as eczema or an allergic reaction.

If your attack of psoriasis was triggered by a sore throat, a swab may be taken from the throat to see if bacteria are present.  If so, you will probably be prescribed an antibiotic.12 If you also have painful joints, your doctor may order a blood test for arthritis.
