Having a social life and Psoriasis
Some patients change their social habits because of their psoriasis
It can be frustrating if you feel you can’t go swimming, wear shorts, or choose a strapless dress for a special event because you’re worried about how people will react to your appearance. This can be particularly tough for younger people who just want to fit in with the crowd.
Holidays can also be more difficult to organise
Air travel restrictions may mean that you need a doctor’s letter before you can travel with your prescription medications. Some medications require you to have regular blood tests to monitor for side effects whilst others have special storage requirements and need to be kept cold.
So, how do you cope?
Finding out as much as you can about the condition and working with your doctor to find a treatment to suit your needs is a good place to start. Developing the skills to cope with psoriasis – medically, psychologically and socially – should then evolve over time.
