Conventional systemic Psoriasis therapies

Systemic treatments are effective but may be associated with potential risks and so only tend to be used for moderate to severe cases of psoriasis.12

There are three main options: methotrexate and acitretin slow down the rate at which the skin cells divide, while ciclosporin suppresses the immune system.

If your dermatologist feels you may benefit from taking one of these treatments, they will discuss the pros and cons with you before you go ahead. You will need to have regular blood tests and blood pressure checks and you need to be aware of potential interactions with other medicines you may be taking.
